Why We Use Raw Honey

Picture
Raw honey is different from the pasteurized honey you usually find on grocery store shelves. The processed varieties are heated to high temperatures and filtered, which destroys beneficial pollen and antioxidants. We love using raw honey in our Elderberry Syrup for the added health benefits it has, including:

• Bee Pollen
There are over 250 beneficial compounds found in bee pollen, which can only be found in raw forms of honey. It contains vitamins, micronutrients, and amino acids that can help with everything from liver function to cardiovascular health.

• Antioxidants

Raw honey contains a variety of plant compounds called polyphenols that provide antioxidant benefits in your body. These can reduce inflammation and the risk of chronic disease. Raw honey contains 4 times more polyphenols than processed honey.

• Antibacterial and Antifungal
Raw honey is a natural antimicrobial agent for your body that can kill harmful bacteria and stifle the growth of yeast.

• Sore Throat and Cough Remedy
Studies have found that honey can be as effective as over-the-counter cough medicines and you’ll also get relief from sore throats as it provides a protective coating - all from a natural source.

• Digestive Health

It’s been found that raw honey is a potent prebiotic and can feed the good bacteria in your intestines. It’s also been found to protect against stomach ulcers and even treat diarrhea.

• Variety of Nutrients

While the amounts are small, there are an impressive amount of nutrients found in raw honey including 22 amino acids, 31 minerals, and many other vitamins and enzymes like iron and manganese.

Introducing Our New Shower Steamers!

Picture
I had Springtime allergy sufferers in mind when I created my new product - Shower Steamers. They’re dissolving tablets that have been made with peppermint and eucalyptus oils to help calm and soothe your body as they mix with the steam from your shower and have been formulated to last 4-7 minutes.

Here are some more details about what peppermint and eucalyptus can do:

• Opens Up Airways
The menthol in peppermint has decongestant properties and can thin mucus. Eucalyptus is anti-inflammatory and works to quickly open up breathing pathways.

• Improves Immunity
Eucalyptus helps to improve how your body reacts when it comes into contact with allergens.

• Eases Headaches
Both peppermint and eucalyptus are able to soothe pain from headaches and sinus pressure.

• Boosts Focus
Peppermint is a stimulant for your central nervous system and works to heighten concentration and mental alertness.

• Freshens The Air
Not only does it smell nice, peppermint has antiviral and antibacterial properties that improve air quality.

• Soothes Sore Throats
The cooling sensations from breathing in peppermint and eucalyptus can help relieve a sore throat and coughing.

Cough Syrup Now Available!

Picture
My new cough syrup is loaded with a combination of remedies that can help provide a natural way to get relief from coughs and congestion when you need it. Here’s a closer look at the ingredients and how they can help:

• Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties that relax airways to ease coughs. It can also reduce nausea, provide pain relief for sore throats, and help break up and loosen mucus.

• Thyme contains flavonoids that relax your throat muscles to reduce coughing as well as reduce inflammation. It also contains vitamins C and A to help boost your immune system.

• Cayenne contains capsaicin which has the ability to suppress pain signals that reach the brain and provide you with relief.

• Lemon reduces congestion by opening up your sinuses. It also contains vitamin C and citric acid that help boost your immune system and fight off bad bacteria.

• Local honey helps coat and soothe your throat. Since it’s sourced locally, it can help boost your defenses to allergens in our area as well.

• No artificial dyes and just one natural sweetener - local honey!

Benefits of Raw Honey

Picture
Raw honey has been minimally processed, which allows it to retain things like pollen, enzymes and antioxidants that are usually lost during processing. Let’s look at some other health benefits of raw honey:

• Bee Pollen - Only raw honey retains bee pollen and the micronutrients it provides. There are around 250 different substances found in bee pollen such as vitamins, fatty acids, and amino acids. Studies have shown that bee pollen can improve liver function and reduce the risk of stroke.

• Antioxidants - All honey contains plant compounds called polyphenols, but raw honey contains up to 4 times as much as processed honey. Polyphenols have been shown to reduce inflammation, lower risk of heart disease and certain cancers, and act as an antioxidant in your body.

• Sore Throat Relief - Honey provides a protective coating for your throat to offer you some relief.

• Cough Remedy - Studies have shown that honey can be as effective as the ingredient dextromethorphan that’s in most over the counter cough medicines. You’ll get cough-reducing benefits but from a natural source.

• Wound Healing - Honey has potent antibacterial and antifungal properties and has been shown to be effective in clearing infection in wounds and protecting them from becoming infected.

• Improve Digestive Issues - All it takes is 1 to 2 tbsp of raw honey on an empty stomach to offer pain relief and healing for ulcers that occur in the digestive system.
